The Father's Day Appeal

Father’s Day is an opportunity to focus on men’s health. In the 16 years since its inception, the Alfred Father’s Day Appeal has raised millions of dollars which has genuinely improved the care that the hospital offers to men, their families and the entire community.

It is also the time that we encourage all men to become Healthy Heroes by taking responsibility for their health and adopting a healthy lifestyle – while reducing environmental and preventable health risks.

It’s no secret that men have traditionally struggled to look after their mental health. Generally speaking, men exhibit low rates of mental health literacy and rarely seek help when they need it.

This is why understanding mental wellbeing, is so important.

A cornerstone of the Alfred Father’s Day Appeal, the 2016 edition of Healthy Men: Keeping a Healthy Mind and Body is focused on tackling the common misconceptions surrounding mental health and providing men with helpful advice and practical tips from a number of the Alfred’s leading clinicians.

The Alfred is delighted to announce that Bulla – a family-owned business run for six generations – has thrown their support behind this year’s Father’s Day Appeal in an effort to help us care for Victorian families.

The Alfred is also thrilled to welcome back Jason McCartney as an official ambassador for the Appeal. A victim of the Bali bombings in 2002, his much-celebrated road to recovery is proof that a commitment for better health, while sometimes challenging, is well worth it.

This year, Jason is joined by three new ambassadors: Victorian cricket champion Paul Sheahan, former St Kilda and Collingwood player Luke Ball, and Andre Rencontre, a father of two and former patient of the Alfred.

This year’s Appeal will support the expansion of the Cardiac Unit. With cardiac disease continuing to be the number one cause of death in Australia, the Cardiac Unit supports the Alfred’s Catheter Labs, where lifesaving procedures such as stents, heart-valve implants and pacemaker implants are performed.

When you DONATE NOW to the Alfred’s Father's Day Appeal, you are making an investment into the future of your community’s health.
